Burros are deeply social animals that rely on the bonds they form with their herd. When those bonds are disrupted through neglect, changing circumstances, or displacement, these intelligent animals often find themselves without the safety and companionship they depend on.
Our appreciation for these smart, soulful animals grew into a mission to help burros who needed a safe place to land.
From our sanctuary in Boise, Idaho, Happy Ass Burro Rescue provides rescued donkeys the care, patience, and stability they need to heal.
Whenever possible, we work to reunite herd mates so those bonds remain intact. Just as nature intended.

Volunteers play an important role in helping care for the donkeys and supporting the daily work of the sanctuary. From filling hay bags and cleaning stalls to brushing and loving on the herd, there are many ways to lend a hand.
